| General info |
Only three hours from Athens, Methana is a picturesque peninsula and it is located east of Peloponnesus and southwest of Piraeus, in-between the islands of the gulf of Argosaronikos. Its big historical significance lasts from the Stone Age until today. The island is famous for its healing fountains, that’s why it is considered to be one of the best bathing resorts in Europe. The town’s ornament is Nisaki, where you can visit the church of Agion Anargiron and the remnants of the Cyclopean walls. Across you will find the traditional hydrotherapy center. On the north side of the town, you can enjoy the sandy beach of Limniona. Everywhere on the peninsula, there are ruins of ancient towns, in Paleokastro, in Throni, in Nisaki, in Magoula, in Oga, on top of the Chelona, in Agios Nikolaos. Those ruins testify the historical importance of the peninsula, which lasts for centuries. The visitor will be fascinated after climbing up to the crater of the volcano in Kammeni Chora and the two other craters, which lie northeast. From up there he will be charmed by the beauty of this place and by the panoramic view of the Saronikos. |
